A Japanese style washi paper is wrapped around the box, and a traditional "Umemusubi" knot, made of Japanese "Mizuhiki" cord is attached. In Japanese culture, different colors and types of knots are used to express celebration or condolences. 
 
The red and white "Umemusubi" can be used for all celebratory occasions.
